This site is very professional showing that someone is very computer savvy. I actually called today to offer the suggestion of a baby monitor for people to put in front of their homes to monitor for fires now that your community is plagued by an arsonist. I use a baby monitor to detect when animals come onto my back porch and the sensitivity of those monitors is amazing. In the cold weather, you could wrap the monitor in a small cloth such as a washcloth, put it inside a plastic bag, but be sure the monitor is turned on. That would be the baby unit. Then you take the two parent units and place them in the house while you sleep or work on the computer, etc. and I guarantee that you will be able to hear footsteps or any other kind of movement such as clothing rubbing together. If you hear a significant noise, you could then turn the porch light on and off to scare the person away and call 911. Then if you saw someone take off, you could run out and grab the hose if necessary and try to put out the fire provided the water line isn't frozen. I researched baby monitors online and found http://www.babyuniverse.com; it will be obvious where you go from the home page. I found a monitor like the one I have, but an upgrade (I have had mine for 10 years). The brand name is "The First Years" and the upgraded version has 2 receivers, 49 MHZ. It is on sale right now, January 26, 2009, for $29.99. If I were living in your community right now, I would definitively be using the baby monitor--yes you can sleep with the monitor turned on to low volume, about 2 or 3 and you will more than likely wake up to whatever noise it would take to attempt to start a fire. Good luck and God bless you folks. I will be praying that the ATF, now that they are involved, can catch the culprit or culprits. I will be following the story on CNN.

It's about time! I started out at 41 with Eddie Rank and Jack Jones in 1972.... obtained my EMT_B at the old Coatesville Hospital and joined the West End in 1974. I became a Life Member at West End in 1994. I am glad and proud to see the CFD create such a nice web site. Hopefully, I'll be accepted into it as a member! Hang in there Coatesville firefighters....

Very impressed to see the 'city' finally signing up with firehouse solutions! Congrats on that! A lot of the pictures remind me of when I used to hang out when my Uncle Doug (Perine) was career for the city!!! Keep up with stories and pictures!

Up to this point, the new website is a disappointment. Pictures show apparatus no longer in use. Station sub-websites are incomplete. Should have waited until a better site was finished.
